WHERE WE LIVE

We thank God for providing the money for us to purchase our first home.  We are thrilled to be living now in our own townhome, 5555 Hamstead Crossing Drive, nestled in a quiet, wooded neighborhood in the northwestern part of Raleigh.  Our home is a cottage-style townhome in a community of rustic Williamsburg-style townhomes.  It is surrounded by tall trees where we hear birds singing and watch squirrels play.  Our home is conveniently located near Glenwood Avenue (Hwy 70) and Duraleigh Road, within minutes of shopping, William B. Umstead State Park, and Raleigh-Durham Airport.

We are creatively making 5555 Hamstead Crossing ours.  Beverly is asserting her artful eye to make it warmly and tastefully decorated, and comfortable.  We’re now in the process of sorting out our physical belongings -- furnishings and stacks of boxes -- because neither of us has moved in a number of years.  It may take some more months of sorting to get our home in order so that we can receive guests on a regular basis. However, we’re excited about our shared vision to make our home a place of warmth and hospitality for others.

A day or two after we returned from our honeymoon, our faith was tried with a major challenge:  the former owner’s movers left an uncapped water line when they removed her refrigerator from her icemaker’s water line, and the City of Raleigh gave us misinformation on which direction to turn the water valves during the process of turning on our water.  The combination of these two mishaps resulted in two inches of water covering the downstairs portion of our new townhome.  By God’s grace, and the professionalism of the insurance and water-removal company persons, we have faced this challenge, corrected the damage, and moved beyond this trial.

WHERE WE WALK

We enjoy the peaceful atmosphere in our neighborhood, and take frequent walks together.  Steve enjoys walking and “urban hikes” to explore his new neighborhood and city.  Most mornings before he begins work, he takes a hike, often to a local independent coffeehouse, only a 15-minute walk from here.  This coffeehouse reminds him of neighborhood coffeehouses in his beloved city of 20+ years, San Francisco.  Close by is a large state park, William B. Umstead State Park, with beautiful wooded trails for hiking, biking, and horseback riding.  He loves to hike in the starkly beautiful woods there, and on a neighborhood greenway along Crabtree Creek.  Also, he has joined a neighborhood gym and enjoys walking the 2-3 blocks there to exercise.

WHERE WE WORK

Beverly is currently working as a medical librarian for WakeMed on New Bern Avenue in Raleigh.  She is thankful for the opportunity to hone her professional skills and gain experience while there. Steve is currently working from his home office for Kaiser Permanente in Oakland. He is grateful to have this remote working relationship with Kaiser during his transition from San Francisco to Raleigh.  Work transitions lie ahead for one and possibly both of us, and we would appreciate your praying with us that our needs for employment and health insurance coverage will be met.

WHERE WE WORSHIP

We're visiting a dynamic fellowship just 2-3 blocks away from where we live (easy walking distance), and are starting to build relationship with the warm and caring people there.
