San Damiano Retreat Danville, CA	San Damiano nestles under the hills of the East Bay. The pleasant grounds offer places for walking and sitting, and one can use the trails onto the mountain which lead off from the edge of the property. St. Columba Retreat House Inverness, CA	St. Columba Retreat House is an extension of the ministry of St. Columba Episcopal Church. The single structure houses a church with small chapel, both conducive for prayer and mediation, meeting and gathering rooms, and private rooms for guests. The grounds offer outdoor seating plus the hidden St. Seraphim Chapel, which is more accurately a day cell for prayer. There is no Daily Office, but Eucharist is celebrated Wednesdays at noon. Serra Retreat Center Malibu, CA	The approach to Serra Retreat Center takes you past grand estates but leads to an isolated hilltop with vistas of the sea and mountains. The large facility has a large, beautiful chapel, comfortable meeting rooms, gardens with benches and several terraces for relaxing, visiting, or meditating. Prince of Peace Abbey Oceanside, CA	Prince of Peace Abbey is a large, well-developed compound atop a hill above the San Louis Rey River. The well-designed buildings are augmented by beautiful original art in stained glass windows, stations of the cross and the central icon of Christ, the Prince of Peace in the church. The abbey offers a variety of spaces for meditation, worship and walking. Guests are invited into 5 of the 7 daily offices. The Eucharist is offered to professed Catholics. The Brothers are available for spiritual consultation, by appointment, if desired. Guest rooms are motel-quality, most with private bath. Mount Calvary Monastery and Retreat Center Santa Barbara, CA	Mt. Calvary is a small monastery perched atop a secluded hill overlooking the Pacific Ocean. The building has been converted from its original use as a lovely Mediterranean style home, with rooms surrounding a quiet central courtyard. The garden remains as a place to wander or sit in meditation. There are 6 monks in residence and guests are invited to share in the 3 daily offices, including Eucharist. The bookshop may open new windows onto your spiritual journey, and the well-stocked library could keep a guest occupied for hours in its spacious, comfortable room. Mater Dolorosa Passionist Retreat Center Sierra Madre, CA	Located in a residential area of Sierra Madre, Mater Dolorosa is secluded up against the San Gabriel Mountains and holds a secure and peaceful atmosphere. It is a large facility with pleasant gardens and a beautiful chapel. A guest will find wide freedom to walk, sit and meditate. There is no regular Daily Office or Eucharist. St. Anthony’s Retreat Center Three Rivers, CA	Thirty miles east of Visalia, St. Anthony's Retreat Center is a quiet, comfortable facility cradled in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Saint Andrew's Abbey Valyermo, CA	Saint Andrew's Abbey is in a desert location but offers clean, pleasant accommodations, chapel and meeting rooms. The walkways wander through cactus and rocks, inviting guests to enter into the desert experience, but without the severity of a remote, lonely location. Guests are invited to share in the Daily Office, including the Eucharist. An excellent bookshop and on-site potter add to the attractiveness of this monastery. Living Water Worship and Teaching Center Cornville, AZ	Living Water is an oasis of space and spirit. The restful grounds and the river bordering the property provide ample outdoor space for relaxation and meditation. There is a chapel for group sessions and a library where one can sit alone or with a few others. Guest rooms are nice and use a common bath in the center hall. Monastery of Christ in the Desert Abiquiu, New Mexico	Set deep in a marbled canyon, next to a clear, wide river, The Monastery of Christ in the Desert is marked by silence, solitude and simplicity. An ever-growing group of Benedictine monks, representing all corners of the globe, offer peace and hospitality to guests who are welcome for a day visit or extended stay. Shalom Prayer Center Mt. Angel, OR	Shalom Prayer Center provides a peaceful environment where men and women of all faiths and cultural traditions are welcome to seek wholeness and deepen their relationship with God. (From the Center’s Mission Statement) Situated in the quiet town of Mt. Angel, the center is easily accessible yet holds guests in a feeling of seclusion and peace. Mount Angel Abbey St. Benedict. OR	Mount Angel Abbey sits atop a hill overlooking the pastoral Willamette Valley with views of distant snow-capped mountains. The 400-acre grounds provide ample space for leisure walking and reflective sitting. Divine Office is offered daily in the large church, and the lovely prayer chapel in the Retreat House invites personal prayer and meditation.
